VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA
Vancouver sits between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains—consistently ranked one of the world’s most beautiful cities. It’s outdoorsy (skiing and beach on the same day), diverse (50%+ Asian population), environmentally conscious, and EXPENSIVE (housing crisis is real). The vibe is laid-back West Coast—yoga pants, craft beer, sushi, and hiking boots. Rain dominates fall/winter, but summer is absolutely perfect.
June Weather: Gorgeous. 60-70°F, sunny, low humidity. This is Vancouver’s best month. Everyone’s outside after 9 months of rain.
Fan-Friendly Spots
Gastown is Vancouver’s oldest neighborhood—cobblestone streets, Victorian buildings, the Steam Clock (touristy but fun), and excellent bars/restaurants.
Granville Island has a public market, breweries, and waterfront patios. Take the mini-ferry across False Creek—it’s scenic and fun.
Yaletown has upscale bars and restaurants in converted warehouses. Great for pre-match drinks.
What to Actually Do
Stanley Park is MASSIVE (1,000 acres)—rent bikes and ride the Seawall (6 miles around the park). Views of mountains, ocean, and city are stunning.
Capilano Suspension Bridge ($55) is touristy but impressive—230 feet above a canyon, swaying in the wind.
Grouse Mountain Skyride gives panoramic views. In summer, you can hike up (the “Grouse Grind”—brutal but rewarding).
For groups: Rent kayaks and paddle around False Creek, or take the ferry to Granville Island for food and breweries.
Where Fans Eat & Drink
Vancouver’s food scene is incredible—especially Asian food (sushi, dim sum, ramen).
Must-Try:
- Sushi: Vancouver has some of North America’s best (Miku, Tojo’s)
- Dim sum: Richmond (suburb) has authentic Cantonese dim sum
- Salmon: Wild Pacific salmon, grilled or in sushi form
- Poutine: Available everywhere (it’s Canadian)
- Asian fusion: Bao Bei, Kissa Tanto
For drinks, visit BC craft beer (Parallel 49, Brassneck, 33 Acres), local wine (Okanagan Valley), or Caesar cocktails. For watching other matches: The Pint Public House (multiple locations), Mahony & Sons, or The Cambie.
Where NOT to Go: Granville Street at night is rowdy and sketchy (drunk college kids). Chinatown at night can be sketchy (drug issues). East Hastings Street has serious homelessness/drug problems—avoid.
Getting Around Vancouver
SkyTrain: Automated metro system—Expo, Millennium, and Canada Lines. $3-5.75 depending on zones. Clean, fast, reliable.
Use a Compass Card (reloadable) or tap credit card.
Buses: TransLink buses cover everywhere. Same fare as SkyTrain.
SeaBus: Ferry across Burrard Inlet to North Vancouver. It’s fun and scenic.
Walking: Downtown is very walkable. A seawall path along the water connects many neighborhoods.
Uber/Lyft: Available but more expensive than other cities. $10-30 for most trips.
Bike Share: Mobi bike share everywhere. $1.75 unlock + $0.32/min.
From Airport: Vancouver Airport (YVR) is 8 miles south. Canada Line SkyTrain to downtown ($10, 25 min) or Uber ($35-50, 20-30 min).
Safety
Vancouver is extremely safe. One of the safest major cities in North America. East Hastings Street (Downtown Eastside) has a serious homeless/drug problem. It’s sad and overwhelming. Avoid the area. Gastown, Yaletown, Granville Island, and Kitsilano are all safe at night. Just avoid East Hastings.
