LOS-ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

LA is where the world comes to chase dreams. It’s Hollywood film sets and Venice Beach skaters, $15 green juice and $3 taco trucks, gridlock traffic and perfect weather. This isn’t one city—it’s 100 neighborhoods, each with its own vibe, spread across 500 square miles. Everyone’s “working on something” (a script, an album, a startup), health is a religion (yoga, cold-pressed everything), but so is In-N-Out Burger. It’s superficial and creative, laid-back and hustling, all at once.
June Weather: 70-80°F and sunny. Mornings can be overcast (“June Gloom”), but it usually burns off by noon. Perfect beach weather. Bring sunscreen—the sun is stronger than you think.

Fan-Friendly Spots

Santa Monica is your base. The pier is iconic (Ferris wheel, arcade, street performers), the beach is beautiful, and Third Street Promenade is a pedestrian mall with bars, restaurants, and shopping. It’s walkable, safe, and packed with tourists—perfect for meeting other fans. Venice Beach (1 mile south) is where things get weird. Muscle Beach, skateboarders, street artists, drum circles, and questionable characters selling questionable things. It’s chaotic and entertaining. The boardwalk has bars right on the sand—grab a beer.
For nightlife, head to West Hollywood (WeHo). The Sunset Strip has legendary music venues (Whisky a Go Go, The Roxy) and rooftop bars with city views.

What to Actually Do

Griffith Observatory is FREE and offers stunning views of the Hollywood sign and city. Go at sunset, then stick around for the planetarium show. Walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2,700 stars on the sidewalk), see the TCL Chinese Theatre handprints, take a touristy photo. It’s cheesy but you have to do it once. The Getty Center is world-class art in a stunning building with gardens and views—also FREE (just pay $20 parking).
For groups: Rent bikes and cruise the Marvin Braude Bike Trail (22 miles along the beach from Santa Monica to Torrance). Stop at beach bars along the way.

Where Fans Eat & Drink

TACOS. Every corner has a taco truck or stand. $1-3 per taco. Try Leo’s Taco Truck, Guisados, or Tacos 1986. Order al pastor or carne asada. In-N-Out Burger is a California institution.
Style” (secret menu: grilled onions, extra sauce, pickles). Double-Double Animal Style with fries and a shake—trust the locals. Korean BBQ in Koreatown—all-you-can-eat grilling at your table. Kang Ho-Dong Baekjeong or Park’s BBQ. Pink’s Hot Dogs (since 1939) has lines at 2am. Get the bacon-wrapped Guadalajara Dog.
For watching other matches: Goal Sports Cafe (soccer-specific bar), The Greyhound (British pub in Highland Park), or any bar in Santa Monica/Venice.

Where NOT to Go

Hollywood Boulevard after dark—sketchy characters everywhere. The Hollywood Wax Museum—waste of money. Avoid downtown LA unless you have specific plans—the homelessness situation is overwhelming.

Getting Around LA

The truth is that LA is built for cars. Public transit exists and is improving, but most places require driving or long Uber rides.
Metro Rail: Expanding rapidly. Red/Purple (Hollywood/downtown), Expo (Santa Monica to downtown), K Line (SoFi to downtown). $1.75/ride, day pass $3.50. Clean, safe, but limited coverage.
Buses: Extensive but SLOW. Traffic kills them.
Uber/Lyft: Essential. Budget $15-50 per ride. Traffic is terrible from 7-10am and 3-7pm.
Rental Car: Best option for flexibility ($50-80/day), but parking is $20-40 everywhere. Use the Waze app to navigate traffic.

Distances (all take 1-2 hours with traffic):

  • LAX to Hollywood: 15 miles
  • Santa Monica to Downtown: 16 miles
  • Hollywood to SoFi: 12 miles

Safety

Tourist Areas like Santa Monica, Venice (during day), Hollywood (main areas), and Beverly Hills are all safe and well-policed. LA has a visible homeless population, especially in downtown, Venice, and Hollywood. Most people are harmless but it can be overwhelming. Don’t leave valuables in cars—smash-and-grab robberies happen. Venice Beach at night can get sketchy. Stick to well-lit areas or leave before dark. Rip currents at the beach are real. If caught, swim parallel to shore, not toward it. Earthquakes are possible anytime. If one hits: DROP, COVER, HOLD ON. Get under a table.
Insider Knowledge “The” Before Highways: Locals say “the 405,” “the 10,” never just “405.” Embrace it. Everyone’s in “The Industry” and the entertainment business. Don’t ask “what do you do?”—you’ll hear about their screenplay. Dress ultra casual. Jeans and sneakers work everywhere, even nice restaurants. LA is not fancy. Celebrity Sightings are common in WeHo, Beverly Hills, Venice. Act unimpressed. Don’t ask for photos. In June, mornings are often cloudy/foggy near the coast. Burns off by noon. Locals call it “May Gray, June Gloom.” 4-7pm is happy hour,half-price drinks and apps everywhere.
